Defender 110 Drawer System

This project was done in collaboration with Sonoran Rovers, a Land Rover shop specializing in custom overlanding builds. I was contracted to design and fabricate a slide out drawer system based on their client approved renderings. Final electrical/plumbing fit out for a kitchen and other peripherals would be done by Sonoran Rovers.

The approved design features a locking toggle latch, latch closed/open slides with single hand operation and a hinged front cover to access the internals of the drawer for maintenance and assembly. The drawer frame is designed to mount with the existing seat and seatbelt hardpoints on the Defender chassis, making the install completely reversible and non-invasive. A mixture of 3D scanning and traditional measurement techniques were employed to achieve the desired fit.

The frame consists of square steel tubing and laser cut mounting tabs - all tig welded with the open tube ends oriented such that they would be hidden by the rest of the interior build out. The drawer section was fabricated from mild steel. After the initial build and dry fit, the assembly was stripped down for powder coat.

The assembly and piece parts were modeled with SolidWorks CAD and fabrication drawings were produced for all sub components. This documentation package not only facilitated the build but also enables repeatability and standardization of future projects.
